Antique style warrior
François Lucas (1736-1813) was a member of a dynasty of Toulousan artists. His work shows how far Parisian aesthetic debates of the time influenced his artistic environment. His Louis XVI Taking the City of Toulouse Under His Protection, commissioned by the Capitouls in 1777 is clearly of great historical interest, since it celebrates the return of the parliament to Toulouse. His Antique style warrior (1777) strikes a more spontaneous pose and appears to belong to a series of small decorative terracotta sculptures whose original destination remains unknown.
