Artistic Charm and Elegance in the Days of Louis XV
The gracious, elegant art associated with the reign of Louis XV is represented in this exhibition by Pierre Lucas's works, Zéphyr and Borée. Almost fifty years later his son, François Lucas, once again took up the theme of Zéphyr.
So as not to strip our permanent exhibition halls of their most beautiful works, we have preferred to leave in place those essential to the illustration of the history of sculpture in our museum. You will find a number of masterpieces of 18th Century sculpture displayed in the painting galleries on the first floor.
Some are reception pieces by Parisian artists for the Académie : Pajou's Saint François de Sales, Houdon's striking bust of Bélisaire and the delicate portrait of Madame de la Popelinière by Lemoyne. In addition there is the imposing Louis XVI prenant la ville de Toulouse sous sa protection, commissioned from the local sculptor, François Lucas, by the Magistrates of Toulouse.
