Sculptures from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, which amount to about five hundred pieces, are scarcely represented in the current display at the Augustins museum due to a shortage of space. Some of the finest of these works will be put on temporary display between now and the completion of renovation work on the museum, when an appropriate place will be provided for them. They are reminders of the periods and styles that left quite a significant mark on the face of Toulouse (for instance, in Renaissance "hôtels particuliers" such as the hôtel Bernuy or the hôtel d'Assézat and the parliamentary hôtels in the Saint-Etienne district).
The museum possesses an equally exquisite and extensive collection of 19th century sculptures and sketches. Works from the Toulouse school, which largely grew up around the influence of the master, Alexandre Falguière, from the école des Beaux-arts de Paris, form a significant part of our collection. So far, these works have not been sufficiently represented in the museum exhibition itself, but they will most certainly be exhibited once the new presentation of the museum's collections has been organised.
