Recent acquisitions
The Déposition by Ferdinand Storm, also known as Hernando de Estumio (circa 1500-1556), is an important painting from one of the many Flemish artists who went to work in Spain.  It completes the museum’s collection of Aragonese and Flemish paintings.

Benjamin Constant (1845-1902), Classical Scene (Antigone and Polynices): This superb sketch for the Prix de Rome was acquired from a descendant of a friend of the artist.
The Education of Achilles by the Centaur Chiron by Jean-Baptist Regnault (1754-1829) is a very beautiful autograph reduction of the painter’s masterpiece housed at the Louvre.  The museum also purchased a marble funerary bust by Félicie de Fauveau, one of the rare 19th-century woman sculptors, and is delighted to have received the generous gift of two busts by Victor Ségoffin (1867-1925) from descendants of the models.

Restorations
Paintings : Painting restorations include major work on the painting by Bononi (uncovering a life-size portrayal of Saint Sebastian that had been painted over several times) and on the Virgin with Child by Jean Tassel (painting on wood with numerous missing portions), and the end of prolonged restoration work on the Coriolanus at the Volscians by Lagrenée.  Three Spanish paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries, both with great historic importance, have also been restored at Versailles, as well as a number of smaller, high-quality paintings (Vernet, Marie-Guilhelmine Benoist, the Baron Gerard, Cabanel).

Sculptures : The most significant sculpture restorations this year will be those of two exceptional works in our Gothic collection, Our Lady of Good News and the Vierge de Pitié des Récollets.

External Loans
The Musée des Augustins has contributed to the success of international exhibitions through the loan of major works.  These include Visions of the Flood in Dijon and Lausanne, Turner and the Impressionists in Brescia, The Painters of Reality at the Orangerie in Paris, and Philippe de Champaigne in Lille.
In light of the great scientific interest in two exhibits proposed by the Vic and Barcelona museums in Spain, the museum will take the unusual measures of loaning several of its Romanesque masterpieces from Saint-Etienne: the capitals of The Death of Saint John the Baptist and Foolish Virgins and Wise Virgins, as well as three apostles.

Reading material
The museum has a series of guides on the collections, scientific catalogues, and illustrated works available to help visitors of all levels of expertise and interest enjoy the exhibits to the fullest.
